In 1979, the family of the late Lindell W. Sturgis of Metropolis, Illinois, established an endowment to fund an award to recognize the contributions of a current SIU Carbondale employee to the community, area, state, or nation. 

Lindell W. Sturgis was a member of the University's Board of Trustees from 1949 to 1951, and from 1953 until he retired in 1971. He was Chairman of the Board from 1969 until his retirement.

This prestigious award is presented annually by the Board of Trustees and consists of a cash gift of $1000 and a plaque.

Nomination packets must be received by Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
