Eclipse Sculpture Dedication "Art in the Dark"
Join us in celebrating the dedication of 'Art in the Dark', an exquisite eclipse-inspired sculpture by Jack Nawrot, senior scientist emeritus at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. This handcrafted 8.5-foot stainless steel and iron masterpiece symbolizes our connection to celestial wonder and enriches the cultural landscape of SIU's campus.

Description: Delve into the meticulous planning and scientific endeavors that have culminated in this remarkable eclipse experience.
Eclipse Sculpture Dedication "Art in the Dark"
Time: 4:00 p.m.
Location: Morris Library Lawn
Description: Witness the official dedication of this celestial-inspired artwork. The sculpture is designed to be viewed from 10 to 12 feet away, allowing observers to see the eclipse as it moves across the southern sky behind the sculpture. A compass directions faceplate on top of the pedestal is inscribed with spherical coordinates for the beginning of the eclipse, totality, and the end of the eclipse.
Robert A. Lopez and Dean John Pollitz to offer introductions and speak. Jack Nawrot, artist, and Bob Baer, Co-Chair of the 2024 Eclipse Steering Committee, to give remarks.
