Once a Saluki, Always a Saluki
Every spring, starting in spring 2025, Southern Illinois University Carbondale will have an annual remembrance ceremony, honoring and remembering our fellow Salukis, faculty, staff, and students who have passed. the Saluki Remembrance Day ceremony offers a time for reflection, remembrance, and connection with the families and friends of those we have lost. We are here to support each other as we grieve the loss of a Saluki.

Ceremony Components
The ceremony will include:
- Brief remarks from the Chancellor and Provost
- A poem written by a faculty member, read by a student
- The reading of names of remembered faculty, staff and students
- A moment of silence
- Presentation of a memorial item to families
- Playing of the Alma Mater (performed by School of Music brass quintet "Southern Brass")

This event is open to all members of the SIU community with extended invitation to families of our lost Salukis.
